What We Grade
PACKAGED VIDEO GAME ITEMS

VGA currently grades cardboard-based sealed game cartridges including Atari and Nintendo games.  In addition, we grade current-release games and virtually all systems, controllers, and accessories from the last several decades.  We plan to begin grading plastic-based sealed games cartridges and discs by the end of Summer 2008, once we have better researched how to spot re-sealed games of this type.
Standard Category
  • Commonly submitted and standard-size items are graded under our Standard Category.

  • Examples of Standard Category items:
Atari 2600/5200/7800 Games, NES, SNES, N64, Gameboy Games.
Custom Category
  • Un-commonly submitted or irregularly sized games, systems, and accessories are graded under our Custom Category.

  • Virtually all sealed games and related items which are eligible for VGA grading fall under one of our custom tiers.

  • VGA also grades certain items which never came factory sealed, provided the items are in new and unused condition. VGA can also grade boxed items that are no longer factory sealed (i.e. the tape has been broken or come loose) as long as the boxed item has an interior sealed bubble and all the contents (paperwork) are stilled sealed in their bags.

  • Examples of Custom Category items:
    Gameboys, Systems, Controllers, and Accessories.
LOOSE VIDEO GAME ITEMS
VGA does not currently grade loose video games.

VGA will NOT grade any item which exhibits the following:

  • Restoration (Example: Ink used to cover flaws, Resealed Box) VGA reserves the right to determine what constitutes restoration.
  • Glued parts and/ or accessories.
  • Holes large enough to allow the game and/or accessories to be removed or replaced.
  • Reproduction Items ( Example: Game, Accessories, and Packaging)
  • Incomplete Items (Missing necessary accessories)
  • Incorrect game accessory combination
  • Resealed Packaging
  • Hand made pieces (Not mass produced)
  • Double Taped Items
  • Extensive Damage
  • Repainted games and/or accessories.
  • Not Factory Sealed (excludes items that were never factory sealed)
  • VGA reserves the right to refuse any item for any reason.

VGA WILL grade unsealed boxes if:

  • The item was never factory sealed, provided the items are in new and unused condition. VGA can also grade boxed items that are no longer factory sealed (i.e. the tape has been broken or come loose) as long as the boxed item has an interior sealed bubble and all the contents (paperwork) are stilled sealed in their bags.  If no interior bubble is present, then the item cannot be graded.

  • In order for video game systems and other video game accessories which never came tape sealed to be graded, VGA must carefully open the box to remove the contents in order to verify that they are complete, unused, and factory sealed when applicable.  Only after this is confirmed can an item be encased and assigned a VGA grade.
